1 / Consequences of Ending TPS and DACA, poster campaign series of three, 18” x 24”; digital photographs with customized caution tape

2 / Beneficiaries, accordion book; digital print, 16 pgs., 10” x 15”

3 / Help Them Stay, postcard series of three; digital prints,  5” x 7”

Fajardo’s capstone raises awareness about many immigrants facing the anxiety and fear of becoming undocumented and eventually being deported. Many families, including her own are at risk of being separated by the decisions of the current administration, in regards to TPS & DACA.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) is a program that grants temporary legal status to foreign nationals of countries that have been affected by natural disasters like earthquakes or hurricanes, ongoing armed conflict or any other extraordinary and temporary conditions. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a policy that temporarily protects individuals from deportation, who came to the United States as children. The great majority of people protected by TPS and DACA have lived in the United States for decades and/or arrived to the country as children. They have gone to school here, worked hard, started businesses, families, purchased homes, and created a life full of dreams for them and their loved ones.

Between the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, the current administration terminated TPS protection for six countries; Honduras, Nicaragua, Haiti, Sudan, Nepal and El Salvador, Fajardo’s country of origin. An estimated 300,000 immigrants from these countries will lose their temporary protected status soon and become at risk of deportation.
